Haliç Art: Fener Houses
The Haliç Sanat: Fener Houses project is an initiative that aims to breathe new life into the city of Istanbul by preserving its historical and cultural heritage. Undertaken by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, this project revitalizes a section of the Haliç (Golden Horn) shoreline, encompassing the historic neighborhood of Fener. The Fener Houses, after undergoing restoration and repurposing efforts, are being transformed into living spaces and art galleries.
These rejuvenated structures are part of a larger plan to create a cultural route stretching from Cibalikapı to the Sveti Stefan Church along the coastline. In conjunction with the Istanbul Art Museum, which will be opened in the nearby Haliç Shipyard, this area will host contemporary art exhibitions, contributing to the city’s cultural dynamics. Each of the Fener Houses will host exhibitions featuring site-specific works by various artists, thereby engaging with art enthusiasts.
This project represents the first steps in forming a new cultural and art bridge that connects the two sides of Istanbul through the medium of art and history. The Fener Houses, as art galleries, are opening their doors to merge history with art.
