What is Aşiyan Museum?

Aşiyan Museum, which was the home of the famous Turkish poet Tevfik Fikret between 1906 and 1915, was purchased by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality in the 1940s. Before its acquisition, the house maintained its original state for some time. However, after facing financial difficulties, Fikret’s widow rented it out as a boarding house for students. About five years after the municipality’s purchase, the house was converted into a museum and officially opened in the 1940s under the name “Edebiyat-ı Cedide.”

The museum, known as Edebiyat-ı Cedide until 1961, was renamed Aşiyan Museum following the transfer of Tevfik Fikret and his family’s remains to the site in 1961. After undergoing various restorations, the museum reopened in 2012 and continues to serve visitors to this day.

• Bus: For bus travelers, the Aşiyan bus stop is the closest, followed by a 200-meter walk to the museum. Relevant bus lines include 22 from İstinye to Dereiçi-Kabataş, 22 RE from Fatih Sultan Mehmet to Beşiktaş, 25 E from Sarıyer to Kabataş, 40 from Rumelifeneri to Garipçe-Taksim, 40 T from İstinye Dereiçi to Taksim, and 42 T from Bahçeköy to Taksim.
• Ferry: For those coming from the Asian side, it’s necessary to take a ferry to Beşiktaş Pier and then continue by bus to the museum.
